Inevitability, Cards, and Rashes

Inevitability is an interesting concept, especially in certain circumstances. The circumstances when you know that an outcome is certain, yet you turn a blind eye and hope the outcome will turnout differently than is certain, which in essence defies the concept of inevitability at its core. For example, when you are attempting to build a house of cards you know that ultimately that house will eventually come crashing down. However, that doesn't stop you from building it and making the greatest house of cards the world has ever known. There in lies the oxymoronic nature of the concept of inevitability. You know whats going to happen yet you pretend as if it won't, and then act surprised when what you knew was going to happen actually happens. Another example, global warming. We know that inevitably global warming will be the harbinger of death to this planet yet we go about our daily lives ignoring this paramount, catacylismic fact as if it were an irritating rash that we don't want to bother ourselves to go see a doctor about.

The definition of inevitable is: something that cannot be prevented and is unavoidable. So the question is: what is it about human nature that does not accept the premise of a foretold future? Are we stupid, hopeful, naive, or just ignorant? Or is it that we recognize the inevitability of a situation, accept it, and then move forward. If that is the case, can we actually say we are moving forward? Is the idea of moving forward to an event that is inevitable a good or bad idea? Should the word inevitable even exist? Is any of this making any since?
