Fs and Ns, which is worse

I recently watched the movie Lincoln where racism was rampant. We as people here in America like to believe that things have changed; racism in that manner is long gone. Sure some rights have been extended to the Black American, however does that mean racism no longer exist? Or perhaps the racist folks have gone underground and racism is now a covert hobby, as opposed to an overt hobby prior to the civil rights movement.

But I digress, I would like to turn my focus to sexual preference. I understand the religious qualms with being gay, (understand but don't agree) but as a society we have reached a point where, as males, being gay is somehow negative regardless of religion. It's actually considered an insult to call someone gay, or fag or homo. How the fuck did we get to the point where that type of language is acceptable? I am even guilty of it myself at times.

I bring this topic up because I play video games online where you are able to speak and listen to other players that are online at the same time. When a player is losing or not doing well its common to call the opposing player gay, or a faggot. And if said player finds out that I am Black they often call me a nigger. It's mind blowing to me. How far have we really come since the days of Lincoln?
